Father says pool owner wasn't at fault in child's death

EDWARDSVILLE — Scott MacKenzie is well aware that his reaction to the death of his daughter is hardly what people would predict. Twelve-year-old Caitlyn was apparently electrocuted after she got out of a friend's swimming pool Sunday.
Anger and resentment would be perfectly understandable emotions. MacKenzie could easily be overwhelmed with frustration and rage at the very thought of a young life snuffed out in a freak occurrence.
Yet the 33-year-old insurance agent speaks calmly, even warmly, about the man who owned that pool. It's a testament to the bond between MacKenzie and his best friend, Billy Wood, who is the last person his daughter saw.
"I know what people would expect, but I have no anger," MacKenzie said Tuesday evening from his Edwardsville home. "This is my friend. I know, with all my heart, he did all he could."

I think maybe when someone's *not suing* it just drops off the radar and we're not aware of how often people make that choice.
